Join us for our first webinar of 2024 on essential and developing issues in employment law, with a review of recent landmark Employment Court cases and their application in the post-election environment. Topical issues will include:

  • Gloriavale decision– slave, volunteer or genuine employee? The Court’s analysis of the true nature of the working relationship and implications for employer and worker when the working arrangement is incorrectly described.
  • The Uber decision and appeal – employee or independent contractor? Have the legal tests kept up with the evolution of the gig economy in New Zealand and how future employee/contractor distinctions may develop.
  • NZ Customs Service decision – What are “good employer” standards in the public service and how do they differ from private sector obligations? The application of tikanga and tikanga values in the employment relationship.
